Garden Tour with Daily Potager

Hello! Just wanted to update you all with what I’m growing this season. As you can see, this year is all about the tomato for me. I’m growing 14 different varieties and they are all new ones I’ve never tried before.

Let me start by explaining the difference between Determinate vs. Indeterminate tomatoes. According to PennState Extension, determinate tomatoes- will grow to a genetically specified height and produce all of their fruiting flowers at one time and no pruning is necessary. Indeterminate tomatoes continue to produce fruiting flowers throughout the entire growing season. These tomatoes benefit from pruning throughout the growing season.

Types of tomatoes:  Beefsteak, Grape, Saladette, Cherry, Plum, Paste

Beefsteak- Large, Thickly Fleshed Fruits- Freshly Eaten, Slicing

Grape- Just as sweet as cherry tomatoes, but oblong and shaped like grapes, less watery- Skewers, Salads, Roasting

Saladette- Paste, Plum, Pear- Canning, Sauces, Salsa

Cherry- Sized and shaped like cherries, juicy, sweet- can stuff them otherwise interchangeable with grape

Plum- Plum shape- best for making sauce or paste
